Privacy: the Krew extension
Last changed 14 October 2026
Kruiseship Krew is the Twitch extension over the stream of The Kaelandori Kruiseship. With it you sign on to one of the ship's four stations, send orders from it, and drop a parachute onto the deck. This page says what the extension learns about you, where that goes, and how long any of it stays. Kaelandori, who owns the channel, runs it.
What Twitch tells it
When you watch the stream, Twitch gives the extension a signed token. The token says which channel you are watching and whether you are logged in, and carries an ID that Twitch makes up for you and this extension alone. That ID does not say who you are.
If you press "Use my Twitch name" in the panel and agree, Twitch adds your Twitch account ID. The ship uses it to look up your public display name, the one everyone sees in chat. You can take that permission back in Twitch whenever you like.
What it does with that
- Each order you send goes, with Twitch's token, to the ship's relay, which runs on Cloudflare. The relay checks the token and how often you have sent orders, then passes the order to the captain's PC, which plays it on stream.
- On stream the ship names you when you take a station, send a hail or land a parachute: by your public Twitch name if you shared it, and otherwise as "Deckhand" with three characters from your made-up ID.
- Everyone watching sees who holds each station, by those same names.
- Nothing you type reaches the stream. Hails come from a fixed list.
What is kept, and for how long
- In your browser: the station you hold and the name you go by, in the tab's session storage. Closing the tab clears it.
- On the relay: the names of the four people at the stations, until someone else takes over or the ship starts afresh. The relay counts how often you send orders by your made-up ID, in working memory only, and never writes those IDs down.
- On the captain's PC: your name while the ship is running, and your parachute score on the deck's leaderboard for that voyage only.
- Logs: the ship notes the kind of order that came in, such as "drop", and not who sent it. The relay keeps no record of viewers.
Twitch and Cloudflare handle their own parts of this under their own rules: Twitch's privacy notice and Cloudflare's privacy policy.
What it never does
No cookies, no adverts, no analytics and no tracking from one site to another. It does not read chat, it takes no Bits or payments, and nobody sells or passes on what it learns.
Questions, or taking your name off
Ask the captain on Twitch or in The Kruiseship Discord. If you want your name off anything the ship keeps, in the extension or on this site's noticeboard, say so and it comes off.
Changes
If the extension starts doing something new with what it learns, this page changes first, with a new date at the top.
